Analysis of Poetry & Lyrics
Overview
Something I notice is that there is an impression set by repetition. A part or idea is repeated. It can be a word or a phrase. The part is altered to change connotation or come at it from another way.
Take The Weeknd’s lyrics “… the least I deserve is no conversation” – The Least and No Conversation are both negatives. He is saying ‘little’ twice. Maybe that’s not the best example, but my analysis will bring this idea up in depth and repeatedly.
Hopefully after my analyses you’ll start to notice the paths taken to repeat essentially the same impression over and over in lyrics and poetry. (There’s a bit more to it, as well – you’ll see.)
The above is only one device of many, but it’s the one I’m starting with. More will be written about.
Like music and it’s tonal message/idea, lyrics need answers of impressions on the ear/mind. Your attention should be lead here, always something to reveal or dominate, or etc. I will expand on this.
